We already explained it in the previous post. What is the Metaverse? . Now that we know what the Metaverse will be like, let's talk about the impact it will have on the world of Virtual Realities. Just as we saw the impact that the Second Generation of Virtual Realities had on the world, now we are going to imagine what will happen when they develop the Metaverse.
What will happen to immersive games when they receive the metaverse? Will they be able to interact with other metaverses? Will it be a completely centralized world with limitations?.
Facebook has yet to release many details about what to expect from its version of the metaverse. The promotional video featuring the company's co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and his virtual world avatar looks pretty brilliant. Even so, there is still very little information about how things really work behind the scenes. Based on precedents and what is known, some distinctions can be made between Facebook's likely planned projects and established decentralized metaverse projects.
When it comes to the question of whether it will adopt a decentralized infrastructure in light of its efforts to launch a cryptocurrency, Facebook has some form of Diem, a currency managed by an authorized network of central companies. Based on all of this, it's fair to say that Facebook Metaverse will have a Diem-centric economy, issuing NFT-based assets on Diem's
The biggest difference between Facebook Metaverse And the Crypto Metaverse project is that the latter operates on an open and permissionless blockchain architecture. Any developer can come and create a Metaverse application on the open blockchain, and any user can buy their own virtual property and participate in virtual assets.
One of the greatest benefits of an open and decentralized architecture is that users can seamlessly join and move between different metaverses. This is when we start to wonder to what extent Meta plans for its metaverse to be interoperable and for the assets of the metaverse to be fungible with other assets not published by Facebook?
Instead of trying to dominate, Facebook could choose to integrate with the metaverse, games, and established crypto-financial protocols, which could be a more disruptive scenario. Given the size of Facebook's user base, this could be a significant shift in the crypto space.
So, is there a scenario where someone could transfer NFT assets between the Facebook Metaverse and the Metaverse decentralized network? This seems unlikely, as it would imply a significant shift in Facebook's mindset. While it would create an exponentially larger economic opportunity, regulatory concerns and Facebook's historical tendency to acquire competitors rather than compete alongside them could pose significant obstacles.
The potential of the metaverse to become a network of centralized protocols and walled gardens operating on a blockchain is a revolutionary and disruptive scenario. Given the scale of Facebook's user base, this could be a highly transformative event for the blockchain and cryptocurrency space.
